About

Hello!

Thanks for being here!

My name is Katy and I’m the host and creator of Copper & Heat, the James Beard Award-winning podcast that addresses the complex social interactions at play in restaurants. I’m also a cook, a gardener, and an avid reader.

It all started when I was working on me degree in anthropology and journalism at the College of Idaho. Turns out, I loved creepily observing social interactions while working the line. I also found my love for food while making cheese and playing with baby goats (I was doing research about food culture and cheesemaking).

After graduating college, I worked for a couple of years at a nonprofit in Boise, Idaho doing food service job training with refugees before deciding to pursue my love of the culinary arts by attending the International Culinary Center in California. I did my externship at the Plumed Horse and worked at the 3 Micheline star Manresa Restaurant as a chef de partie before leaving to start Copper & Heat.

Now, I spend a lot of my time doing food experiments, editing weird mouth sounds, and taking too many pictures of my cat.
